Floodplain is a very important part of the landscape, not only from viewpoint of physical geography, but also from hictorical, biological and population, industry and agricultural concentration viewpoints. There is a specific relationship between human activities and natural processes in a floodplain.
Article defines floodplain on the basis of geomorphologic criteria and compares them with the definition of other disciplines. The article describes the function and development of the floodplain during the Holocene.
The article also deals with fundamental fluvial landforms in the floodplain or in its immediate vicinity. Conclusions were transformed into the problem tasks related to discussed topic.
