Abstract

The article examines the concept of the competence of the social pedagogue, as well as that of social pedagogy and events related to this field in the context of globalization and the ongoing transformation of authority. It characterizes the epistemology of social pedagogy and its relationship to the changing paradigms of science, poses questions as to the more general relationship between authority and competence, and shows the transforming social realities in the context of the process of globalization not only as a risk factor but more importantly as a challenge for educational assistance.

The content of the paper consists in the examination of an open-ended concept of the competence of the social pedagogue. In terms of methodology, the text uses hermeneutic-interpretative and comparative methods.
