The Czech Republic is home to a host of feminist organisations (NGOs dealing with issues as varied as legal counselling, political representation of women or gender mainstreaming), three academic institutions dealing exclusively with gender studies (Gender&Sociology at SOU in Prague, undergraduate programme at FSS MU in Brno, and a graduate programme at FHS UK in Prague) and a handful of thriving grassroots activists (most recently e.g. Genderfuck fest held in Prague).

It is therefore often rather complicated to find a common ground and partly as a result many are reluctant to even label the diverse activities with the unifying term of a "movement". In my paper, I will present findings from my ongoing PhD research of the Czech feminist scene using discourse analysis.

In the framework of the research, I have conducted 27 semi-structured interviews with representatives of all of the above-mentioned streams of the scene. The aim of the paper is to identify some of the most pertinent issues of the current Czech feminist praxis and to suggest concrete areas in need of redefinition to enable a future dialogue rather than further divisions.

To achieve this, I will predominantly concentrate on the contentions presented by research participants. These mainly concern the cooperation with other movements/groups (e.g. queer, GLBTQI, environmental), perception of their position within the global power hierarchy (especially relevant to the academic part of the scene), and relations with other streams of the scene (cooperation of the academic and activist segments).
