Abstract

Childhood prevalence of allergic disorders in developed countries has reached a plateau after 2 decades of persistent increases. Asthma affects children in both developed and developing countries, but the predominant etiology seems to be different in the two areas: atopic asthma is more prevalent in school children in developed countries, whereas nonatopic asthma is more prevalent in developing countries.
