Abstract

Perioperative hemodynamic optimization is a concept which according to many randomized control stuides is able to decrease the postoperative morbidity. But still some controversies exist abou the right goal, device and method used.

In the text we present a conscise review of the developement of goals for the perioperative hemodynamic optimization startiong with the historic supranormal oxygen delivery goals towards actual fluid optimization methods and possible future tissue goals.
