Education Projects Focused on European Issues at Bilingual Grammar Schools

Abstract

The aim of this contribution is to present the results of Czech-German research project focused on participation of bilingual grammar schools at educational projects with European issues background. This comparative analysis was realized to describe the specificity of chosen projects from the perspective of their themes, ability to improve students' intercultural competences, cooperation with a local region and their organizing body.

Bilingual education is a current theme in Czech environment, especially because of a pilot verification of Frame Educational Programmes for Secondary General Education (Grammar Schools). The issue is in German multicultural society viewed mostly in the connection with frequently discussed education of immigrants.

Bilingual grammar schools in the Czech Republic and in Germany apply to their instruction The Method of Content and Language Integrated Learning (CLIL), which is often joined with education projects aimed at European themes. This phenomenon has been fostered in the frame of upper secondary education.

The study is a part of dissertation research project Bilingual schools and European projects.
