Shaking of Sacred Tree and hugging a Minoan Baetylus as a way of Minoan Divination

Abstrakt

The article examines two types of scenes on Minoan gems: shaking of sacred tree and hugging a baetylus. They are considered to be two related kinds of divination.

The article mentions later Greek written sources and also treats the aforementioned gems in light of what we know about Aegean iconography and religion.
