Abstract

The article deals with the issue of jurisdiction over persons and objects in space. We can generally say that jurisdiction of a state includes its authority over the judicial, executive and legislative branches of the government.

The basic criteria for assessing the jurisdiction over objects in the outer space is, according to Article VIII of the Outer Space Treaty of 1967, the right of the state on whose registry an object launched into outer is carried. Ownership of objects launched into space is therefor established on similar principle like that of a ship on the high sea.
