The end of democracy in the ČSR in 1938 and post-war orientation of the republic towards the Soviet Union brought no good to the printing business. The pre-war editor of the DLZ and printery owner Ernst Bergmann emigrated in October 1938.
Upon annexation of CS border areas to the Third Empire the DLZ published herein lost its traditional regional nature and became a press authority of the newly established Landrat of Česká Lípa. By the yearend 1940 the newspaper was acquired by Gustav Albert, owner of a small printing-shop in Nový Bor.
After the end of war the printery was overtaken by national administration. In November 1945 Tommy Bergmann, Ernst Bergmann's son, arrived in Česká Lípa from England and became national administrator of his father's business.
He unsuccessfully strived for the retribution of aryanized plant and also emigrated after February 1948. In September 1949 the printery was nationalized and incorporated into national enterprize North-Bohemian Printeries Liberec.
In December 1951 the printery was shut down after 77 years of operation and its jobs were transfered to former Gustav Albert's printing-shop in Nový Bor. Shutdown of Bergmann printery in Česká Lípa was closely interconnected with the termination of classical regional newspapers in the ČSR after 1945, namely after 1948.
The study traces the post-war destiny of this printery.
