Abstract

Doxorubicin is a cytostatic drug used in cancer therapy; however its cardiotoxicity is limiting the clinical application. On the other hand, it has fluorescence properties, and therefore it is suitable for monitoring by fluorescence microscopy.

In this study fluorescence microscopy was used for imaging of doxorubicin interactions with Staphylococcus aureus and BY-2 cells. Bacterial and BY-2 cells were stained by doxorubicin, and the influence of doxorubicin on cells viability was investigated.
