The long-term trends in the bioaccumulation of heavy metals in the Elbe macrozoobenthos: what to do with the inhomogenic data set

Abstract
The body burden of the Elbe macroinvertebrates with As, Cd, Pb, and Hg was monitored within the framework "Elbe Project" to follow expected improving of the water quality after 1989. The presentation focuses on the first comprehensive summary of the results gained during this project and discuss the sources of contamination.
Additionally, new evaluative approaches to assess the data were suggested.
