INFLUENCE OF THERAPY ON THE DEVELOPMENT OF MAXILLA IN TWO OROFACIAL CLEFT PATIENTS: 3-D LONGITUDINAL EVALUATION

Publication at Faculty of Science, Second Faculty of Medicine |
2012

Abstract

The study aims were to review the shape of maxilla in both cleft patients after the completion of eighteen years of treatment. The plaster casts were evaluated using classic and geometric morphometrics in comparison to a control of healthy and cleft group.

Special attention was paid to detailed individual surface morphometric analysis of maxilla. Both patients showed a decrease of about 6-7 mm in distance between canines after palate surgery.

Using long-term orthodontic therapy, it is possible to increase the dental arch in cleft patients to normal values and to create optimal conditions for prosthodontic treatment.
