Abstrakt
The original Columbian Yo soy Betty, la fea was adapted into a 73-episode serialization called Ošklivka Katka (Ugly Katka) in the Czech Republic. Eastern European region has been going through a process of transformation from an authoritarian regime to a liberal economy, since the late 1980s, and the post-socialist condition seems to be an influential discourse that affects how meanings are presently generated and fixed (Jakubowicz, Sukosd 2008).
Implementation of the Columbian format combines social realistic leitmotif with fairy-tale and dramedy elements. As such it provides the opportunity to negotiate sensitive meanings concerning capitalism in post-socialist world.
