Abstract
While all the other Slavonic languages derive the word for love from the Proto-Slavonic root *ljub-, Czech (Slovak) and Polish have developed special terms: láska and milość, respectively. The article examines semantic modifications of the Slavonic words involved, their motivation and broader etymological context, and compares the Slavonic material with the Latin concepts of "amor" and "caritas"
