Abstract

The chapter compares speech and predication of properties, how uses it Socrates and how uses it Hippias in the dialogue Hippias Maior. Author researches Socrates' propositions about "the beauty" in the frame of their logical self-predication and he trying to consider, how we can understand these propositions.

He further pays attention to the difference between socratic speech (called elenchus) and dialectics, which is central theme at the end of the dialogue.
