Extranodal diffuse large B-cell lymphoma in the orofacial region (5 case reports)

Publication

Abstract

The authors present five case reports of patients with primary extranodal diffuse large B-cell lymphoma in rare orofacial localization, who were diagnosed at the Dental Clinic and treated in the Department of Hematology and Oncology, University Hospital and Faculty of Medicine in Pilsen in the period 2009-2011. The aim of this report is to highlight the possibility of occurrence of this malignant disease in the oral cavity and surrounding areas, where it often mimics inflammatory disease and it is not considered in the differential diagnosis of pathological conditions in this region.

The task for the oral and maxillofacial surgeons is early diagnosis of these tumors, because the period to initiation of treatment represents a negative prognostic factor for survival of these patients.
