Abstract
In the article there are described politeness strategies that are chosen by the authors of the assessments of university diploma theses to lessen their face-threatening potentional. 120 diploma thesis assessments that were written in Czech language department, Faculty of Education, Charles University, Prague in 2009-2011, are analysed. Grammatical and lexical means to express politeness are described.
