Forgotten Mathematician Henry Lowig (1904-1955)

Publication at Faculty of Mathematics and Physics |
2012

Abstract

The first part of the book traces the life path of Lowig in the context of European historical events as they unfolded in the first half of the 20 th century. This provides not only valuable information about the university life and the situation in Czechoslovakia during the First Republic, but also describes and provides a testimony of Lowig's mathematical works (functional equations, functional analysis, lattice theory, Booleas rings, algebras).

His mathematical results are placed in the overall context of the development of mathematics. The factual appendix includes the list of publications and reviews written by Lowig.

Also attached is an interesting document - Lowig's diary from the period between October 1944 and May 1945. Other pages contain interesting photographs and archival materials tracing Lowig's life story.

An English summary is included in the end of the publication.
