The contribution informs about the realization and the partial results of the concurrent projects - the European ESTABLISH project and the national project GAČR - which are focused on the research of pupil/ student skills in the scientific subjects at the beginning of the implementation of the current curricular reform related to the use of inquiry-based education (IBSE). The goal of the research is to characterize, analyze and verify the skills necessary for the realization of inquiry-based education of scientific subjects at primary and secondary schools.
The starting point for the suggested IBSE skill system is the analysis of the research results of the researchers, both local and from other countries, in this area, and comparing the teachers' opinions about the use of this method. The next stage of the research whose results we show here is to verify, with the help of well-constructed educational tasks, if the students at different points of their education have the required skills and at what level - and therefore, if they are ready to use IBSE in real school practice.
