The Mašín Brothers as Heroes of Socialist and Capitalist Realism

Abstract

The paper focuses on the similarities and differences of the Communist and post-Communist narrative versions of the controversial "real life" story of the Mašín brothers. It shows how the Communist era film and literature constructed their story to maintain as many anti-heroic features as possible while the post-Communist era merely mechanically converts the narrative features to make them as heroic as possible.
