Shuhacantha bifurcata, gen. n. et sp. n. (Heteroptera: Colobathristidae), from peninuslar Malaysia is established and a first key to Eastern Hemisphere genera of the family is constructed. Miscellaneous problems of the functional morphology of the Colobathristidae are discussed, particularly the existence of antipredatory mechanical devices, quasi-plesiomorphic reversal of forewing shape in association with evolution of meso scutellar spine, and extension of thoracic evaporatoria onto the abdomen in excessively narrow species
