Abstract
The authors present their opinion about the perspective of the Ross procedure replacement of aortic valve with pulmonary autograft. This year it has been 45 years anniversary since the Ross procedure was introduced.
Despite that, this operation has never spread out because of its technical difficulties and a potential risk of pulmonary autograft and pulmonary homograft failure. At present, the Ross operation is still the procedure of choice in pediatric cardiac surgery.
In young adults, the Ross procedure can be indicated in patients with aortic disorders not applicable for aortic valce repair who do not wish to be on anticoagulant treatment.
