Abstract

Erica Pedretti: Die engste Heimat (1995). Analyse aus einer literaturgeographischen Perspektive, as the name implies, deals with the issue of space in this novel, shown here as space perceived first and foremost visually and emotionally by the narrator herself, who is the author's alter ego.

The novel's protagonist returns after nearly thirty years to the place of her childhood. She is delighted by the surrounding countryside, which has remained almost the same, but is greatly shocked by a visit to the former German villages which lie in ruins.

The author focuses on depicting urban landscapes (Prague and Zábřeh in particular), as well as open, natural spaces (Jura pastures, the Haná region, etc.). Spaces are often recreated in memories.

The focal point of the text is the garden, which for the author represents the homeland / Heimat about which she is writing.
