Who are the best Guardians of Liberty : Guicciardini's critique of Machiavelli and the Birth of Democratic Elitism

Abstract

The paper deals with Guicciardini's critique of Machiavelli's preference of the people as guardians to liberty. It employs rancierian cencepts of politics and police to describe different approach of both authors in question.

It also seeks to establish a strong connection between Guicciardini's political theory and the theory of democratic elitism.
