Bone Healing Capacity in Patients Undergoing Total Hip Arthroplasty

Publication at Faculty of Medicine in Hradec Králové |
2012

Abstract

Elderly patients undergoing implantation total hip athroplasty due to osteoarthritis have lower bone healing capacity because of higher coincidence of osteoarthritis with osteopenia/osteoporosis than is reported, lower number of mezenchymal stem cells (counted as number of CFU-F per ml) and their lower proliferative activity. Of the matrices for new bone formation in vitro, allografts showed the best results.

Of the graft substitutes, porous -TCP was the best.
