Abstract

The article focuses on the reflection of the 60th birthday of Lithuanian President Antanas Smetona in the Czechoslovak mass media in 1934 The author analyes the methods of creating an understable image of the authoritarian President of Lithuania for the Czechoslovak public. The motivation was not only in Smetona's personal aproach to Czechoslovakia and non-conflict relations during the inter-war period.

The author concludes that the reasons behind the campaign for favourable image of A. Smetona must be sought in the political rapprochement of both states in the mid 1930s which was caused by common analogical interest to strenghen regional security against Hitler's policy.
