The process handling an emergency situation at a school, connected with a traumatic death of a child

Abstract

A nine-year old girl from Prague got lost during one late October afternoon on her way home from school where she attended a sports course. Five months later, her body was found in the wood in the vincinity of the school.

The inspection of the body revealed that the girl was raped and killed. The article focuses on the work with the school management, teachers and parents.

All of them are regarded as persons that should provide support for the school children after a traumatic incident. The article describes the crisis intervention, counselling and schooling aimed at improving the competencies of the deeply shocked adults to work with the children.

It also brings the results of several discussions with the school's headmaster.
