Abstract
The article aims to attract attention to the wider literary context of a Bulgarian diabolism motif, by which time is symbolized in the form of sinister measuring machines - clocks. The motif of sinister time as well as other attributes referring to it (clocks, strikes of the clock, pendulum, dial, hands) can be found among Bulgarian diabolism works especially in S.
Minkov's (1902-1966). The study analyses several Minkov's short stories, in which the theme of sinister time is interpreted as a symbol of death: time is recognized as an inescapable path to death, life as a dream from which every human being is snatched away by death.
