Abstract
The article presents a European project ELDEL (Enhancing literacy development in European languages) that was carried out within the 7 FP Marie Curie program. The author introduces to readers an education aim of the project and then describes partial research objectives of particular work packages that are implemented in the project.
Further the design and progress of the main study - Establishing the Foundations of Literacy in European Languages- is described in more details. The main aim is to reveal the main foundations of the development of reading and spelling.
The cross linguistic perspective allows a cross linguistic comparisons.
