The study gives a basic overview of key factors and events in relations between the two German States from the beginning of the Helmut Kohl's government to the fall of the Berlin wall (1982-1989). When Helmut Kohl's came to power, the relations between East and West Germany began to develop with unexpected intensity, which is to be attributed mainly to the sad conditions of the East German economy requiring financial injections in the form of loans from the Federal Republic.
The model of inter-German policy preferring cooperation before confrontation didn't change even with the exodus of East-German refugees during the summer and the autumn of 1989. The transformation of the Deutschlandpolitik into offensive accenting the possibility of German unification passed after the fall of the Berlin wall.
