Abstract

Energy demands of physical activity during football game correspond to 70% of players VO2max. Besides of total distance 10-12 km covered during top level game in field players there are many other game activities every 4-6 seconds influencing high energy expenditure (e.g. jumps, turnings, tackles, passes, shots, headings, etc.) There is 40-90% decrease of glycogen content in the muscles involved during the game.

It can result in increased fatigue and deteriorated performance. It is important to develop optimal cardio-respiratory capacity in top football players and also to provide glycogen super-compensation with the help of proper dietary procedure as prerequisities of maximal performance.
