Abstract
A brief survey of the Czech thinking on translation during the classical period of the Prague Linguistic School that served as the methodological launchpad for subsequent research is followed by the analysis of translated stage scripts published in the Czech Slovo a slovesnost journal in the 1930s. The author suggests that the genesis and reception of translations may be used as a source concept for inquiries into the genesis and reception of literary texts.
The analysis of interrelationships between the stage script and its translation may, on the other hand, cast light on a number of translational concepts (e.g. the application of aesthetic norm, translation tradition, source text).
