Abstract
Topos is an old rhetoric and esthetic method which indirectly evocates a situation, a geographic location or a dreamed and imaginary place by using generally admitted and understood typical themes. This essay props the major works of Frnech authors and it focuses on the formation and functionning of literary topoi traditionally linkled with Central Europe and Bohemia.
Those climes being most often pictured as locus terribilis and locus mysteriosus and picturesque.
