Economic sovereignty at stake. German economic diplomacy in the struggle for Czechoslovakia after the annexation of Austria

Abstract

After the annexation of Austria Nazi Germany was focused on take control over Czechoslovakia through economic diplomacy which had been successfully utilized for infiltration to southeast Europe. Economic pressure of Berlin together with its political pressure (escalation of The Sudeten German Question) encountered unexpected resistance of Czechoslovakia but Germany did not dare to economic discriminate Czechoslovakia in fear of international complications.

The fear however lost its severity after a solution of great power of crisis about Czechoslovakia in Munich. Shortly after that isolated Czechoslovakia economically surrendered and provided tariff preferences which previously had been refused to Berlin.
