This is a well-structured analysis of twenty-five chapters of Hebrew text, " the Deuteronomic Code", in the Fifth Book of Moses (Deut 12-26) using the synchronous method, taking the composition of the whole text, the structure of pericopes, and intertextual dependencies into consideration. Attention is also paid to the spiritual subtone of the text, the transposition of older Israeli legislative tradition, and the potential for making the text up-to-date to the contemporary reader.
The purpose is to present an intelligible introduction to the mindset behind Old Testament texts of the Exile period, and to emphasize the social aspects of laws that stimulate one's awareness of mutual belonging, solidarity, and responsibility. The text has been prepared as a textbook introducing the reader to the method of analyzing codes by interpreting the narrator's objective determined by the formal appearance of the text.
