Conversion of Paul the Apostle in the light of the New Testament and an attempt of psychological insight into his personality

Abstract

This conference paper aims at broad issue of religious conversion especially in the case of the Apostle Paul. It is psychological and theological reflection of his conversion to Christianity, as described in the canonical New Testament texts.

The first part of the paper theoretically introduces into the location of text where the conversion of the Apostle Paul occures. That is, the Acts of the Apostles and Paul's epistles.

The author focuses on the psychological perspective of religious conversion, its history and current state of research. The final section combines views of psychology and theology.

There are indicated opinions and views of contemporary psychologists of religion. Special attention aims at Paul's personality, which is described with the help of psychological terminology.
