The articles deals with a present topic of teaching an acoustic aspect in foreign languages, while most examples and overall focus is on French language. The language is seen as a means of communication and their relationship is analysed (language as a means of education, not an object).
First, the change in view of education and learning foreign languages is outlined (a shift from passivity to activity). Next, the foreign language teacher's personality is described.
S/he is considered to be the most important person involved in educational process and pedagogical research, which is done in this area. The second part of the paper is devoted to the issue of phonetics and phonology in a foreing language teaching: preconditions in people for mastering the acoustic side of a language, phonological opposites, phonetic minimum (vowels' quantity), methods of practising the pronunciation (stress, intonation, rhythm)...
At the end, the necessity to develop a linguistically-oriented language pedagogy is mentioned.
