Abstract

Prague, the Golden City and City of a Hundred Spires, is well known all over the world. The literature has made Prague famous.

In his literary works "The Lost Beloved" (1956) and "Prague Triptych" (1960) presents Johannes Urzidil not only the true Prague relief to his readers. He enriches the image of the town with fantasies, desires and dreams.

The Czech-German everyday life was determined by the struggle between enlightenment and romanticism, literary cooperation and political disputes. Urzidil's Prague reminds us of the past, dreams its mythical dreams, loves its residents and lives its history.

While dreaming Urzidil remembers his childhood in Prague - his home, his lost love. Nevertheless both of the works are focused on the life of man that spreads above borders and losses.
