Reading literacy in the European context

Abstract

Czech Republic as part of the transformation of the Czech education significantly focused on the issue of reading literacy. One of the major initiatives including the inadequate performance of Czech pupils in the international surveys of reading literacy (PISA, PIRL).

These studies showed that Czech children while reading comprehension relatively well, but work with the information they have problems. In one of the culprits is considered as school reading instruction, in which in terms of the development of reading literacy works very little.
