Bohumil Laušman : Political Biography : Risky Games of the Social Democratic Leader

Publication at Faculty of Arts |
2012

Abstract

Bohumil Laušman is known as the member of anti-Nazi resistance movement or the post-war minister who presided over a partial nationalisation of industry. He is also known as the Chairman of the Social Democratic Party in February 1948 and as the exile politician kidnapped from Austria and brought back to Czechoslovakia at Christmas 1953.

Existing historiography especially describes his adventurous escape to exile or his death in the Prague prison under mysterious circumstances in 1963. However, it is not possible to analyse his unclear role in the February Coup or him joining the Communist's government without a detailed focus on the development of his opinions, motivations and character traits.

My goal is to contribute to the historiography on the biography of the controversial politician.
