Abstract

During the last years, a significant evolution has occurred in the treatment of rectal cancer in middle and low part of rectum. Development of new surgical techniques and new techniques for examinations have allowed sphinctersaving procedures as ultralow rectal resection with coloanal anastomosis (KAR) and intersphincteric resection (ISR) for the treatment of low rectal tumours without compromising oncologic results.

Safety and effectiveness were presented in a few articles. Our goal was introduce the procedure - intersphincteric resection and evaluate short-term results in our small group of patients.
