Abstract

Professional development contains three principal areas - not only in-service teacher education, but also self-education and experience and knowledge acquired by teaching. Legislative definition of requirements demanded from teacher profession determines continuous education.

The new concept of professionel development of teachers presents a new career system. Career system is being introduced also in other countries, in-service teacher education is an important part of it.

What are possible simplifications and dangers for effective support of professional development and quality of schools?
