Film Genre and the Industrial Mindset: More Work Needed

Publication at Faculty of Social Sciences |
2012

Abstract

Here I interview world-renowned film historian Prof. Peter Hutchings about the ways in which genre studies has approached industry-docused analysis.

Hutchings suggests that much genre scholarship is still very rudamentary when it comes to conceptualizing the relationship between filmic models and commercial film production and distribution. He calls for production-culture approaches which engage with industry professionals' own conceptions of genre.
