Abstract

The chapter traces an evolution of economic institutions (Economic board, Central planning commission, Central union of Czechoslovak industry, work councils) which were established after the liberation of Czechoslovakia in 1945. These institutions should implement an idea of economic democracy but actually they became an arena for struggles of politic parties for power.

A winner was Communist party which strengthened its positions by enforcement of economic democracy (especially by work councils). But after takeover in 1948 all competences of economic institutions was cancelled and institutions became objects of decision process of political center.
