Abstract
The paper discusses the state of social history in the Czech and Slovak republics and the transformations of the disciplin in Czechoslovakia in the 20th century. It introduces the most important personalities of social history, mail motives and analytical tools and tries to explain contemporary importance of social history within the Czech and Slovak academic debates.
