Abstract
The article traces basic problems confronted by Czech translators of John Donne's love poetry. Using examples from Songs and Sonnets with their respective Czech translations by Zdeněk Hron and Hana Žantovská, it illustrates the two principles underlying Donne's originality: the wit and logical virtuosity of his arguments and the sense of immediacy so skillfully conveyed by his tone and stylistic treatment.
