Julius Fučík's Resistance Activity in Light of (not Only) Nazi Documents

Publication at Faculty of Arts |

Abstract

The Study assiduosly and methodically reconstructs the story and history of the last adventure of Fučík's life. The stepping-stone for the argument is a recorded but unpublished reminiscence of Marie Zápotocká impugning Fučík's resistance reputation that caused a minor sensation in the fall of 1989 when it came to public light.

But this is only one example in the cautionary tale which instantiates well the point that not only the Fučík story was always manipulated for political ends but also that there are still too many blind spots in this controversial figure's biography to draw a definitive historical portrait.
