Abstract

The article theoretically reflects select ethical aspects of engaging in the teaching profession. It aims to ask after the meaning of professional ethics in a time of moral relativism and neoliberalism.

To fulfill this aim, it utilizes analytical and interpretative methods of theoretical research. The article deals with the concept of upbringing and education as ethical activities.

It clarifies certain principial ethical demands as a point of departure for ideas of the professional engagement in pedagogical occupations. It focuses on elaborating upon the relation of ethics, personal ethics, professional ethics, professional deontology, and the ethics of the given field.

It explores the meaning of codes of ethics in relation to the professionalization of teachers.
