Abstract

Dysphagia is a complicated volitional-reflex process in which the structures of oral cavity, tongue, pharynx, larynx, oesophagus and salivary glands are involved. It has following phases: oral - further distinguished to oral preparatory and oral transport phase, pharyngeal phase and oesophageal phase.

Swallowing disorders may be either cause or result of variety of diseases and their treatment. There two groups: neurogenic and structural dysphagia.
