The purpose of this study is to analyze Alfred Kubin's initiation novel Die andere Seite (1909) in terms of alchemy. The aim is to describe and interpret the protagonist's search and his path, which appears to be a perfect analogy of the Great Work.
The opening of the narrator's consciousness and subsequent transmutation occur in a soft, bright "dream". Attention is paid particularly to hermetic principles and motives connected with alchemical iconography.
